Inside a Real Remote Bass Session: Charts, Tones, Parts & Workflow

I've been recording bass remotely for clients around the world for sixteen years.

This is the process I follow, from working with charts to choosing a signal chain, what gear to use, and the most important thing of all - the take.

This session was passed on to me by my long-term remote rhythm drum partner, John Howells. Here's his site. He's been doing this for twenty years now!

READY FOR A MORE STRUCTURED APPROACH?

  • Hello, thanks for the lesson, I really appreciate your teaching.
I have a question about bass practice with drums (I mean without a drummer). I’m looking for something that can be easily programmed (possibly with beat decomposition up to 32th, on one up to several bars) and with fairly good sound.
I guess there are two options, hardware drum machine or just software application. Could you give me some advice and proposals. That would be great, thanks
