Hotel California by Eagles is an iconic bass line.
Most of it is made up from the simplest of notes - a root, 5th, and octave. How can something so simple sound so good??
I think the answer lies, in part, down to infectious rhythms and a great groove.
In this lesson, you're going to learn the two main sections as well as:
- how to memorise the line
- the song structure
- how to make up your own fills
- what makes this such a great bass line
You might first want to look at this arpeggio exercise based on one of the chord progressions from Hotel California:

Before we get into the lesson, here's my cover of Hotel California. I kept things similar to the original but did add in a couple of my own touches - something I might do on a gig.
The TAB/notation and play along software I'm using is excellent and it's called Tomplay.

Great Song! Loved the tutorials. Are the TABs available in PDF format?
Thanks, Tony! Unfortunately, I can’t share them as I’m using a licensed version of Tomplay. They are available in PDF through the software though.
