Judging from a few questions I have received recently, knowing the pentatonic shapes on bass and understanding what to do with them are two separate things.
In this bass tutorial, I'll take you through all the shapes from the F# Minor Pentatonic scale and its relative A Major Pentatonic.
Then you will begin the process of connecting the shapes to make awesome-sounding bass lines.
Scroll down for the PDF with all the shapes plus the two backing tracks (one minor, one major).
If you want to dig (MUCH) deeper into the magical world of theory and how to use it in your bass playing, you will get so much from my Music Theory For Bass Players course.
ALL The Major and Minor Pentatonic Shapes On Bass Guitar
Use these backing tracks to run the shapes up and down and to improvise:
F#m | A | Bm | F#m | 80BPM
AMaj7 | F#m7 | DMaj9 | Eadd2 | 80BPM
Stick with these patterns, and they will start to make so much more sense. Listen out for them in bass lines - you'll hear them all the time!
