Prince – Chelsea Rodgers Funky Bass Lesson | Bass Line Breakdown

Prince’s Chelsea Rodgers is a standout funk track from his 2007 album Planet Earth. It’s built around a tight, infectious two-bar bass groove that shows off his band’s incredible chemistry.

On bass, Josh Dunham locks in with drummer Cora Coleman-Dunham to create a deep, driving pocket that makes the song irresistible. The riff is short, punchy, and endlessly funky - perfect for bass players who want to work on feel and precision.

I’ve put together a free PDF of this two-bar bass riff so you can learn it and jam along right away. Scroll down to download it.
