The Best Bass Exercise I’ve Used For 30 Years!

I really have used this exercise for over thirty years now.

I use it to hone my technique, I use it make bass lines up (more or less my day job), and I've used it to work on my ear and to understand how music works.

You can do exactly the same with this fun bass guitar exercise!

How To Use These Arpeggios & Modes

There are a few areas this will really help with:

  • Technique. Play the arpeggio and the mode whilst working on coordination, speed, stamina, and proper fingering.
  • Theory. Learn the four different qualities of arpeggio that come from a harmonised scale (that's what this exercise actually is) as well as the underlying mode and the position of each one within the whole.
  • Chord Charts. Read chord symbols above chord charts. Many of the chords you see will be one of these four. Others are quite easy to learn once you know these ones.
  • Improvisation. Take a few chords (the symbols above the bars in the PDF) or just one isolated chord/mode and makes something up using some rhythm and simple grooves.

Even if you don't really understand how this can help you right now, don't worry. Just trust me and learn this thing inside out. It will all become crystal clear as you progress!
